Before humanism people thougth the only reason they live is thanks to god and if you don’t obey to god you go to heaven or hell which the church teached, but when the renaissance came humanism started. Humanism cherished the rebirth that came with the renaissance. One of the biggest humanists was a Dutch from Rotterdam that started education from classical Greek and Roman texts that called to question the church opinions and thruths.
The movement started to embrace a single persons values, beauty and dignity which resulted in the cast system being replaced with another system.
The church had always had a lot of power until the 14th century when
humanism became a bigger movement with more power. People became more interested in
themselves and the here and now.
The plague that went through Europe that killed a lot of people was one of the reasons humanism became so attractive because when they prayed for hope and mercy that the plague wouldn’t get them their prayers made no impact so they lost their faith in a higher power.
Another reason the church lost its power was because city states and monarchies cared more about the economy than the religion.
Before humanism the church said that you have to obey and do as you are told in order to get to heaven, but when humanism came the study of human progress and human nature is at the center of all things.
